Scholarship Overview

SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW:

Scholarships are available to US-based graduate students. Applications will be evaluated as they are received, with preference given on the basis of timing (apply early!), financial need, and potential benefit of attending the Institutes. Funding for scholarships is provided by a gift from Regeneron Genetics Center as well as a grant from the National Science Foundation and is limited, so awards are not guaranteed for all applicants. We intend to fund up to 40 Scholarships with NSF support, so please apply early to be sure to receive one, with deadline of March 10, 2025! We will make funding decisions within the week after that date.

Scholarship Application process:

Within the application (coming January 15, 2025) for participation in SISG 2025 you will be asked if you are applying for a tuition scholarship and housing scholarship plus travel award or none. Please check the appropriate box.

If you are applying for a tuition scholarship with or without a travel award, you must confirm that you are a US-based graduate student. Please provide a Letter of Support from your advisor, which must include the following:

  • a statement indicating how your participation will advance your training, for example stating that similar material is not available at your university or stating a specific need for your thesis.
  • indicating whether scholarship funding is critical.

WHAT DOES YOUR SCHOLARSHIP INCLUDE

Tuition & Housing

Each scholarship will cover tuition for a maximum of three modules and (only) if needed, dormitory accommodation at Georgia Tech for a maximum of three consecutive modules plus a travel award for up to $500. In case the modules are not consecutive, housing for the extra nights will have to be paid for by the participant (rate per night $75.57 incl tax). If you choose to take a fourth (or fifth) module, you must fund your accommodation and pay the tuition fee of $500 for each extra module.

If accommodation is needed, each scholarship will cover dormitory accommodation at Georgia Tech starting the night before the first day of the selected first module. If your last module ends on a Wednesday at noon, your scholarship covers your housing through Wednesday only and you will have to check out on Wednesday. If your last module ends on a Friday afternoon, your scholarship covers housing through Saturday if you are unable to return home on Friday evening.

If you wish to add an additional night, you may select additional nights at the rate of $75.57 per night at your own cost.

Travel

We will provide up to $500 toward travel expenses for participants outside of Atlanta, payable as reimbursement after completion of your attendance and after you submit receipts for your travel expenses.

WHAT DOES YOUR SCHOLARSHIP NOT INCLUDE

  • Your scholarship does not pay for housing outside of Georgia Tech dormitory accommodation. If you prefer not to use the Georgia Tech dormitory accommodation, please let us know so that we can help you identify another option off campus that you would need to pay for from your own sources, and so that we can potentially fund additional students.
  • Your scholarship does not cover any meals.

OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS

  • Please note that you CANNOT apply for modules that run at the same time! Be aware of module dates!
  • Please find information regarding dormitories and meal plans here. [hyperlink to lodging]
  • Applications received later than March 10, 2025, will not be eligible for Scholarship support.
  • The fee for graduate students who do not receive a Scholarship will be $500, plus board and travel.
